WHAT PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT AND WHY
In certain areas of this site, we may request that you provide us with your personal information, such as your e-mail address, name, address, zip code, or contact information. Whether or not to provide such personal information is completely your own choice. If you choose not to provide such information, however, it may impact our ability to provide you with certain services or assistance.
When visitors use this site, we collect and aggregate information indicating, among other things, which pages were visited, the order in which they were visited, and which links were “clicked.” Collecting such information involves the collection and logging of IP addresses, operating system, and browser software used by each user of the website. Although such information is not always considered personal information, we can determine from the IP address a visitor’s Internet Service Provider and the geographic location of his or her point of connectivity.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
We collect non-personal information in part through the use of “cookies”—that is, small text files placed on your computer’s hard drive—that help us determine the type of content and pages to which you link, the length of time you spend at any particular area of the site, the actions you take to search for content, and the resources you choose to use. This helps us identify the most popular areas of our website and determine the effectiveness of our information. A “session cookie” expires immediately when you end your session (i.e., close your browser). A “persistent cookie” stores information on the hard drive so that when you end your session and return to the same web site at a later date, the cookie information is still available.
Cookies allow us to serve you better and more efficiently, and to personalize your experience with this site. Most web browsers are initially set to accept cookies. However, you have the ability to disable cookies if you wish, generally through changing your internet software browsing settings. It may also be possible to configure your browser settings to enable acceptance of specific cookies or to notify you each time a new cookie is about to be stored on your computer, enabling you to decide whether to accept or reject the cookie. You can also disable or delete the stored data used by technology similar to cookies, by managing your browser’s “add-on settings.” As our cookies allow you to access some of this site’s features, we recommend that you leave cookies enabled. Otherwise, if cookies are disabled, it may mean that you experience reduced functionality or will be prevented from using this site altogether.
Under no circumstances may our service providers use your information that is collected through this site other than in connection with providing services to us so that this site can become more useful and efficient. If you would like to opt-out of having your information included in or collected by these particular service providers, please contact email@example.com.
Please be aware that if you do not configure your browser, or actively opt out, you will accept cookies provided by this website. For more information on how to configure your browser, please refer to the documentation accompanying your browser.
Third party websites
HOW WE USE INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We may use your personal information to improve this site and customize your experience. For example, we may use your personal information to send you announcements, administrative messages, and other information; to send you national advocacy announcements or other items that we believe may be of interest to you; to “pre-populate” forms that are displayed for the purpose of searching for and finding information; and to support the operation of this site, such as account maintenance.
We may require third party service providers to adhere to applicable laws, policies, and regulations policies regarding the privacy of our users and to otherwise handle personal information in a responsible manner. We do not, however, assume any responsibility for any acts or omissions of third parties, including the manner in which they use information received either from us or independently. If you believe a third party associated with, or who claims association with us, may be improperly collecting or using information about you obtained through or in relation to this site, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we will forward your message to the third party.
We may use non-personal information in aggregate form to build a more useful website. We may perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our users, and measure demographics and interests regarding specific areas of this site. We may provide statistical information based on this data to our third party partners. We may also use the aggregate data to inform these third parties as to the number of people who have seen and clicked through links to their resources or services.
We do not sell, re-sell or distribute for resale your personal information. You may choose to unsubscribe from any email invitation or mailing list received through or maintained by this site by following the instructions included in the email.
Our site provides you the opportunity to opt out of receiving communications from us at any point where we request that you provide us with your personal information. Where indicated just select the appropriate option. For example, you may “opt out” of receiving newsletters at any time in two ways:
- By using the opt-out or unsubscribe link included in each email; or
- By contacting us at email@example.com.
If you have provided more than one email address, you may continue to be contacted unless you request to unsubscribe each email address you have provided.
SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING
The security of your personal information is important to us. We use reasonable technical, physical, and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, both during transmission and once we receive it, but we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We review and update our security practices periodically and as required by applicable laws or regulations.
If you have any questions about security on our site, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
CORRECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION
If you would like to have your personal profile information removed from our database, or would like to correct, update, or amend such information, you can contact us and we will use reasonable efforts to comply with your request. Keep in mind, however, that residual information will remain within databases, access logs, and other records, which may or may not contain such personal information.
Please be aware that we may retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and applicable state laws. This site is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If a child has provided us with personal information, a parent or guardian of that child should contact us at email@example.com.
